What's Happening in Room 300!

Today we had the opportunity to try out some golf in the gym as Cardinal Golf Club brought some huge blow-up targets which the children got to try to hit with balls!  It was a lot of fun!

Literacy:
We have started a new Writing Unit about The Art of Information Writing (non-fiction writing).  The students have already written a sample text about something about which they felt they were experts - tennis, art, Taekwondo, skating, and cultural traditions were just some of the topics the students picked.  In Reading, we will also be focussing on continuing to develop our reading skills using non-fiction books.

Math:
In Math, we have been using manipulatives and math tools to explore and learn about 2-D and 3-D shapes.  Lines of symmetry, congruency, and miras are some of the terms I hear our mathematicians using in class these days!

Science:
In Science, the students have finished building their toy invention. They are now working on a commercial which will explain the forces needed to make their toy move as well as convince us that we'd like to buy it.

HOMEWORK:
As a reminder, Word Study homework is sent home on Mondays and is due on Fridays, and Math homework is sent home on Wednesdays and is due on Fridays, as well.  Word Study should take about 5-10 minutes each evening, and Math should take about 10-15 minutes total.  As well, please encourage your child to read for 15-20 minutes every day.

As always, contact me if you have any questions!
