SWIMMING!!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Just a reminder that our first Swim to Survive class is this Wednesday.

Please have your child wear his/her bathing suit to school underneath his/her clothes so that we save time at the pool - but please also remember to tell him/her to bring underclothes to put on afterwards. As well, please send a towel and extra snacks for after swimming as I'm sure everyone will be hungry!

Please contact me if you have any questions!

ELECTIVES THIS THURSDAY, JANUARY 24TH!!!!

Hi everyone - our second day of electives is this Thursday.

For those students skating, they need to have their CSA labelled hockey-type helmets, skates, jackets, snow pants, hats, and mitts to participate.

ALL STUDENTS need to have their outdoor winter gear as we will be outside for most of the rest of the day doing a community scavenger hunt walk, a story walk, and many other outdoor games and activities.  It would be a good idea to send an extra pair of socks and mitts for the day.

Reading Logs and more...

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that your child should be reading every night for 15-20 minutes, and filling out his/her Reading Log.

Also, there will not be Word Study this week as it is a short week (PA day on Friday), but there will be math homework for most students.

Literacy:
The students are editing their Small Moments Personal Narrative stories, as well as continuing to work on adding details to all of their writing.  With our weekly poems, the students are practising using the APE method to answer the questions.  Ask your child what APE stands for and to give you examples of how they use this strategy.

Math:
We are working on Measurement, specifically using standard and non-standard units to estimate and measure length, height, and distance.  As well, we are drawing specific lengths using rulers, comparing standard units (for example, 10mm=1cm), and selecting and justifying the appropriate units to measure items.  We will also be exploring perimeter and area.

Science:
Today we started an activity which requires the students to use their knowledge from our strong and stable structures unit and our forces unit.  We'll see how their structures can defy the force of gravity!

Health:
We are starting a unit of Healthy Eating.  Our class will be taking part in "My Healthy Lunch Challenge" run by York Region Public Health.  More details will follow in the next few days.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks
Jen Farley
